Visual Dare: Table For One

Derek made no attempt to sit quietly as he attracted looks from the other patrons.  The freshly bandaged hand on the table, the other fiddled with his last paycheck not near enough to cover the overdue bill in his back.

He glanced at his phone, the text she had left him in the early morning ending the year long engagement.  He grumbled as he deleted the photo that had been his wallpaper for just as long.

He felt something on his shoulder and quickly looked as the bird took flight to another table and smiled at the gift it left.

  1. Wow. So unpretentious, and yet it packs a real punch. All the carefully laid word choices, culminating in the parting gift and it's symbol for the kind of day (week? month?) he's having....very tightly knit, my friend. LOVE this.

I must say, though...breaking off an engagement by text message...that's COLD. :(

  2. That's a bad day if ever I saw one...I'd be grumbling too!
